Supporting Māori and Pacific Islander students to succeed in higher education while staying grounded in their culture and community.

Auckland Royal Academy is committed to raising Māori and Pacific participation in tertiary study. This scholarship recognises that success at university is not only academic — it depends on whānau, community and a sense of belonging.

Recipients receive tuition support alongside access to cultural mentoring and a peer network of Māori and Pacific students across every faculty.

What this scholarship covers

Whānau and community

Applications may describe contributions to your iwi, hapū, church or community group alongside academic results.

Mentoring included

Recipients are matched with a Māori or Pacific staff mentor for the duration of their programme.

Language and culture

Study that sustains te reo Māori or a Pacific language is expressly welcomed in your application.

All levels

Open at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, across every programme the Academy offers.

Who can apply

  • Whakapapa Māori, or Pacific Islander heritage, declared in your application
  • Meet the standard entry requirements for your chosen programme
  • Demonstrated contribution to your community, iwi, hapū or church
  • A personal statement describing your goals and how the Academy fits them

Cultural support at the Academy

Recipients are not left to navigate university alone. The Academy runs a Māori and Pacific student space in the Federal Street campus, regular whānau evenings, and academic workshops delivered by staff who share your background.
